DBOH held its first meeting with City of Hollywood officials on October 31st.

Representing DBOH were Lisa Heller, Monika Stefaniak, and Jeff Stefaniak.

Attending for the City were: Jack Mathison-Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation, Frank McGarry-Major Hollywood Police Department, Linda DeNapoli-Animal Control Officer, Tom Lauridia-Park Ranger, Clay Milan-Director of Code Enforcement.

The main concerns presented by the City's representatives were the problems of aggressive dogs and dog waste. In addressing concerns about behavioral problems, it was suggested that we offer an incentive for obedience trained dogs.

The second problem of dog waste is beachwide, but with a paid City employee staffing the Dog Beach it is expected that that problem will not be a factor at the Dog Beach location. In fact, it appears that having a legal dog beach may actually help the City with the current persistent problem of dog owners using the Beach illegally.

The next step for DBOH is to continue working on site selection and garnering support from Beach residents and businesses that will be impacted. Most importantly, citywide political support is what will help us most. We plan to begin speaking with City Commissioners and attending city-wide Civic Association meetings to explain our plan and listen to concerns and suggestions. Please spread the word!
