Meeting Date
10/24/06
Hollywood Library Main Branch

In attendance:

Lisa Heller
Monika Stefaniak
Jeff Stefaniak
Felix DeBruin
Rosemarie Lewis
Paula Miller

Primary purpose of the meeting:
To realign board of directors to comply with bank requirements. When corporation was set up initially with State of Florida, officers were Monika, Jeff, and Paula. For non-profits, BOD officers must reflect two of the three initial founding officers, so it was voted on and agreed upon that Jeff will carry the title of Second Vice President and Paula is elected to the Board of Directors. Monika and Lisa will establish bank account on 10/26/06.

Update from Lisa:

Spoke with Linda DeNapoli, animal control officer of Hollywood. She is very supportive of the idea of a dog beach. Does not believe City will contribute financially at this time. She gave some history on Poinciana Park and said that there have been only two major incidents there the entire time the park has been open. In one, a small dog was killed. There have been minor scuffles, and she suggested some sort of behavioral test for membership at Dog Beach. Lisa suggested perhaps a discount for those who have Canine Good Citizen certification, a program of the American Kennel Club. (See http://www.akc.org/events/cgc/index.cfm for more info on the program). Discussion of contacting local trainers for their help, perhaps offering a raffle for obedience lessons.

Discussion and presentation of the waiver of liability used by the City of Ft. Lauderdale.

Gil Martinez (Hollywood Beach CRA) has been unresponsive so far.

Site selection:
Rosemarie will coordinate with Chris to present this as soon as possible.

Fundraising:
Poinciana Park 10/28 Lisa & Felix from 9:30 – 2 pm. Chip Nicholson has volunteered to help. Lisa will contact. Also, Monika and Jeff will come by. Will pass out business cards with website/petition info. Linda Goberna, the woman in charge of the event, told Lisa she does not want to make it a “political” event, and at this time it seems advisable to not alienate anyone.

2nd event is Oktoberfest at TYPark, sponsored by the Rottweiler Club. Volunteers are needed to pass out cards and raise awareness, sell t-shirts. Lisa will call for volunteers.

Paula will take charge of selling t-shirts. Initially agreed to have separate prices for various styles, but later agreed that one price was much simpler. T-shirts will be available for sale on the website, at Petropolis Park, and at events.

Next general membership meeting site will most likely be Harry Berry Park, as it is difficult to secure a larger meeting place free of charge. Need a general membership meeting to maintain interest, solicit donations. Felix will talk with Beverly regarding meeting sites. Felix has a fundraising event for his project on Nov. 9th. More info available on his website petproject.

Monika shared the updated database information on new signers of the petition. With the website modified, we can now collect the important address data.

Lisa has a meeting with Director of Parks and Recreation Linda Probert on Tuesday October 31st at 2 pm. The meeting is still to be confirmed, and there are going to be others in attendance. Monika will attend and Andrea will also be asked to attend.

The meeting adjourned at 7:45 pm.
