Purpose of meeting:

To set up the parameters of Hollywood Dog Beach.
Discussion regarding the corporate guidelines for non-profit financial aid.

Setup of board positions/tasks:

Lisa Heller-President, Political action
Monika Stefaniak-Vice-President/Treasurer
Secretary will be rotating position, notes taken this session by Geri Bassett, typed and emailed by Lisa Heller.

Chris Cylke and Rosemarie Lewis:
Site selection, additional volunteers as needed.

Shannon Vezina:
Liability (Ft. Lauderdale model), Press releases.

Andrea Shaw:
Materials for City presentation. Will also contact Jim Naugle to find out who was involved in initial setup of Ft. Laud Dog Beach so that they can advise us. Will investigate fence situation in Boca.

Felix deBruin:
Fundraising, will additional volunteers to be selected.Discussion of successful model in Broward County-Ft. Lauderdale Dog Beach at Sunrise Blvd. In existence for 12 years, monitored & enforced by park ranger.

Dog Beach in Hollywood will require either zoning change or exception to zoning in that area. Agreed that an exception to zoning will be easier.
Discussion of staffing, involvement of Beach CRA. Lisa will contact Gil Martinez of Beach CRA for feedback.

Size discussion:

100 yards as a starting point, may vary depending on site.
Discussion of other dog beaches: Delray, South Beach, Jupiter, Key Biscayne. Discussion as to whether we should include Broadwalk. Lisa says not at this time, perhaps at a later date. Too much to tackle now.

Discussion of fencing.

Discussion of hours and pay for staff, amount to charge. Board agrees to aim for a 90 day trial period with the City of Hollywood. Hours will be ideally Fri-Mon, 7 am – 10am and 4 pm – 7 pm. Initial membership fee of $25 will include membership during trial period.

Fundraising:
1) T-shirt project: Felix has ordered 50 tshirts that should be ready in the next week. They cost approximately $4 per shirt and will be sold for $10 per shirt at various events. Andrea offers to donate a gross of shirts she has. They will need to have the logo printed on them. Chris suggests that if members donate at a higher level, a free t-shirt is given in thanks, as done in public radio fundraisers. Agreed that at $75 or above, free t-shirt to donor.
2) Events: Howl-o-ween at Poinciana Park on October 28th. Felix will share a booth with us and Lisa will staff with additional volunteers. A second event is possibly the Las Olas Home & Garden Show. Lisa and Felix will coordinate.
3) Solicitation of donations from:
-Corporate sponsors i.e. PetsMart, Pet Supermarket
-Local businesses-Veterinarians, Groomers, KennelsFinal notes:
Lisa will write article for Lakes newsletter, published Dec 1st
Lisa & Monika will open bank account, with Andrea as first official member!

Lisa will attend Hollywood Council of Civic Associations meeting on October 16th to inform and solicit their support.
