DBOH Update
03-19-08

Happy Spring!

Greetings to all dog beach supporters.  It’s been a while since our last newsletter, so here’s a brief update on what has been going on and what events are coming up.

Recent Events:
DBOH hosted a very successful fundraiser at Hollywood Vine on February 28th.  Over 75 people attended, including Mayor Bober and Commissioner Asseff.  The support for DBOH was tremendous, and everyone enjoyed good company and good wine.

Upcoming Events

  • Potluck BBQ at Holland Park

                  Saturday March 29th 5:00-8:00 pm
Holland Park, 801 Johnson Street (Johnson/Intracoastal)
RSVP to Helena rossoss@aol.com or 954-628-5455

Come out and enjoy a social event with fellow dog beach supporters.  Vote on the design for the new DBOH t-shirt designed by local artist Jacklyn LaFlamme.  Upcoming plans for DBOH will be discussed.

  • Commission Meeting for a permanent dog beach

The extended trial run for dog beach ends on April 30th.  In early April, we will go before the City Commission to request an ordinance change that will make dog beach permanent.  Expect a newsletter update as soon as we have the date of the Commission meeting confirmed.  It will again be very important to have a large turnout of dog beach supporters at the meeting.  We will be asking for your help.

The trial run has been quite successful, and we have worked hard to address residents’ concerns.  The biggest problem has been people not picking up after their dogs, not on the beach, but on Surf Rd.  Please be diligent about picking up your dog’s waste on or off the beach, and encourage other dog owners to do the same!

Finally, I will be shifting to an advisory position with DBOH due to the time constraints of law school and work.  Helena Drori  has done a fantastic job of organizing our fundraisers, and she will be leading DBOH with Monika Stefaniak and Tina Valant.  We are an all-volunteer organization, and are always looking for further support.  If you can help, please contact Helena at rossoss@aol.com

Thanks!
